Berry Picking

Today we drove to Canby, just half an hour from where we live. We drove out of "the city" and headed into farm land. Oregon is the land of berries and there are a lot of places where "U Pick and Pay". For $1 a pound you can get fresh blueberries, marionberries, boysenberries and raspberries. This farm was great! The owners were our age, possibly relocated to have a simpler life. We played with their dogs...a Border Collie and an Australian shepherd. Then we headed into the rows and rows of various berries. There were 10 varieties of blueberries. Since we've never picked blueberries before, we tried each variety and determined we liked "Early Blue".

Being novice berry pickers....we were SLOW and carefully picked each berry one by one! We left with just 5 pounds of berries, which only filled basically half a bucket. Right after us the serious berry pickers weighed in with 4 full buckets of blueberries!

Check out my new SHORT haircut. Got tired of taking care of the longer hair, not to mention dealing with summer weather and the upcoming humid August trip to China. Add to that taking care of a baby and a new Kindergartener and I've got my hands full and don't need to be messing with my hair.

Poor Meggie....tired and hot, but disappointed it was time to leave. We'll be back again for pumpkin picking in the fall and apple and pear picking season!
