Father's Day Weekend Camping

The Road Less Traveled

It would have been the perfect Father's Day weekend for Darrall. The setting was just what he liked...camping in a wooded, serene site, with the sound of the ragin water flowing in the creek. With such a long Winter, the creek seemed more like a raging river! The whole family left on Friday morning....Eric, his girlfriend May, Brian, Megan and Erin. A mile from home we hear a loud scratching sound. We decide something happened so we pull over.

Yikes! The entire rear bumper of the trailer is gone! Along with the cargo carrier that was attached holding our firewood and generator! The guys run back down the hill to find it. Luckily there weren't any cars behind us. We were driving on a curvy hilly road and the whole thing had fallen off and slid to the side of the road. If something like this was going to happen, this was the "perfect" place for it to happen. Also fortunate, the police department's community service truck pulled up, help load the cargo carrier (and bumper in tact) into his truck and took it back to our house! We drove back home only to find out that we weren't supposed to tow anything with the bumper of the trailer! We started thinking about the movie RV....hmmm...hope this wasn't the beginning of a crazy weekend!

We were now behind schedule but managed to get there in the early afternoon, set up camp and have a nice evening. Unfortunately, Brian wasn't feeling well and couldn't sleep. The next morning Darrall drove him home since it was only 45 minutes away. We were worried about him but he got better so we continued with our camping.

I've been reading "When Women Long for Rest" and sitting near the creek without a computer, email, phone or TV gave me an opportunity to really rest with the Lord. Sadly, the moments were not as long as I hoped, hearing the girls fighting or Erin crying "Momma! Momma!". But it was a reminder that when I feel I need rest, I need to turn off the computer and TV and quietly sit and spend time with Him.
